Lacquer Painting with Le

Le Kim My is a lacquer and silk painter who grew up steeped in artistic traditions. Her father – artist Le Quoc Loc was a famous lacquer painter, whose work hangs in the gallery devoted to 20th century Vietnamese art in the Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts. She taught art at the Vietnam University of Fine Arts for 36 years and now focuses on personal works in her small, quiet studio located in a warren of alleys off Van Cao. Her work reflects a range of sentiments rooted in artistic practices of the last century but that doesn’t stop her from experimenting with new themes, techniques and materials. One instantly feels comfortable in her modest, gentle and zen-like presence.
