Seeing the Gee’s Bend quilt exhibition when it was touring the country was somehow transformative. When a friend suggested I treat myself to a VAWAA with the quilters for my 70th birthday, I jumped at the chance. Well, sort of. It took me a while to get organized, but I finally made it at age 72. The VAWAA experience opened my eyes to the joy of solo travel to learn something new. I felt competent, intrepid, and empowered.
